Ever want to know whether an incoming call is from an advertisement or not? Now you can!

VerifiedAD phone numbers now have the whisper feature, which allows you to hear the source of the incoming call while the caller hears the phone ringing.

 

Here's how it works:

You log in to your VerifiedAD dashboard. Edit one of your VerifiedAD call tracking numbers. On that screen, you will now see these options:

If you have...

  • "No Whisper Message" selected: your phone will ring and connect immediately with no indication of call source.
  • "Advertising Call" selected: if you answer an incoming call from this number, you will hear a computerized voice say "Advertising Call" immediately after you answer the call.
  • "From Google" selected: if you answer an incoming call from this number, you will hear a computerized voice say "From Google" immediately after you answer the call.
  • "From Bing" selected: if you answer an incoming call from this number, you will hear a computerized voice say "From Bing" immediately after you answer the call.
  • "Custom" selected: you will be presented with a text box to type in whatever you want the computerized voice to say to you whenever a call is received from this number. This should be a very short message because it plays before the caller connects to you, so long whisper messages are not ideal since your customer would hear the phone ringing without answer for longer.

 

Your customer will not hear any of the messages, they are only heard by you when you first answer.

 

By setting a whisper message, you can adjust your approach to each customer because you now know the call's source.

 

Whisper messages are included with every number at no additional charge.

Google has mailed 190,000 bar codes to local business that have setup Place Pages on Google. The concept of scaning in a bar code via a mobile device to get information, e-coupons or discover friends or contacts is begining to take shape as a complelling capability.  Foursquare, Loopt, Gowalla and Google are on the scene and for sure geo based advertising is in the mix for all these applications.
